My attempt at a Pantoum

Clarity as Rare as Sunlight

The crisp air burns my throat.
Breathing gets heavier the less I can see.
Through haze and fog I drift,
Clarity as rare as sunlight.

Breathing gets heavier, the less I see
Anything, even right in front of me.
Clarity as rare as sunlight
In Winter's dominion.

Anything, even in front of me
Fails to bring fire to my eyes.
In Winter's dominion
I struggle to rekindle flames of endurance.

Failing to bring fire to my eyes,
I drift through haze and fog.
I struggle to rekindle flames of endurance
As the crisp air burns my throat.

Haiku of the Day

Darkness giving way.
Days now grow ever longer.
Sun lingers in the sky.

More 2012 Limericks

My apologies in advance about the fat joke...

Winter's the evilest of seasons.
Cold, wind and snow are the reasons.
     Plus never enough light,
     Days shorter than night.
So much smog in the air, it's treason!

On a walk in the park in the cold,
Our hands in his jacked enfold.
     With warm coffee in hand,
     Conversation spanned
The length of the time that we strolled.

Sometimes I watch Biggest Loser.
Makes me my own kind of substance abuser.
     Watching fat people run
     Was never so fun.
My hat's off to the producer.

My first poetry of 2012...limericks...

Heather has trouble with numbers.
Above 15 or 16 she blunders.
     How she counts sheep
     When trying to sleep
One must certainly wonder.

Calliope likes to eat trash.
Thinks the garbage is her personal stash.
Into the can goes her nose
     For something disposed
Until I start smacking her ass.

Pierre is a dog that I know
Whose gay dad sets my face all aglow.
     When he snuggles between us
     I know that this must
Be a moment I'll never let go.

2012: I WILL blog more...or else...

I'm not sure how many times blogging more has been near the top of my list of resolutions.  This year, I would really like to exercise my writing skills more and blog more often, but because I know how these things go, I am setting no official goal for how MUCH more I intend to blog.  If it is even more than last year at all, I will be satisfied.

I am finally coming to grips with everything that has changed in my life recently.  It is truly amazing to me how quickly fate can turn my life upside down.  While my relationship died a slow death, it ended abruptly enough to leave me feeling as though I had been kicked in the chest, left gasping for air and trying to figure out exactly what had happened.  The truth is, I still don't know exactly what happened.  The truth is, I don't think I will ever fully understand it.  I understand bits and pieces and have a vague understanding of the overall picture, but it is still largely out of focus.

But the truth is, at this point, I don't care anymore.  I have spent the last three months (almost) trying to figure it out, contemplating if there is anything I can do to correct it, and failing at maintaining any kind of connection with that part of my (now) past.  Sometimes you just have to start over from scratch I guess.  It's really too bad because about a year or more ago I thought my life was really going somewhere and now I feel like it has become completely stagnant.  I have lost so much.

But I have picked up the pieces of what is left of my life and have moved on.  I have made some amazing new friends and intend to explore new relationships and spend some time exploring myself a bit as well.  Never having had the opportunity to just be myself as an adult, I am finding the experience to be both liberating and occasionally lonely.  I don't know yet where this year will take me, but I know it will be exciting, challenging, terrifying, (hopefully) interesting, and most importantly, different from anything I have previously experienced.

Tears shine on my face
Winter freezes inner flames
Warmth on the horizon

Before My Eyes

Before my eyes, something was broken.
To the burning in my soul I was blind.
So much discontent was left unspoken.

Of my true feelings, my words merely a token
of fathomless depths left undefined.
Before my eyes, something was broken.

Hiding, veiled existence became my slogan.
Behind a locked door, desire consigned.
So much discontent was left unspoken.

The occasional exclamation so softspoken.
My ever-growing restlesness being designed
before my eyes.  Something was broken.

On my vivid reality, slowly choking.
To the hopelessness, unwittingly resigned.
So much discontent was left.  Unspoken.

Beginning to see, slowly awoken
from a darkened reverie, unenshrined
before my eyes.  Something was broken.
So much discontent was left.  No longer unspoken.
